Best Slippers for Sweaty Feet

Sweaty feet, also called Plantar Hyperhidrosis, is among the most common foot problems. Also, other than making them look bad and affecting your confidence, it can also lead to infections, athlete’s foot, odor, and toenail fungus.

And, if you have sweaty feet, you’ll know that, unlike most other problems, it persists in all climatic conditions. You’ll also probably understand how difficult getting the best slippers for sweaty feet can be, especially because most slippers, even those made of synthetic materials, have little breathability and don’t include effective moisture-wicking properties, both imperative for coping with the issue.

Therefore, I have created a list of what I believe to be the five best slippers for sweaty feet which are not only breathable but also lightweight, sweat-absorbent, odor-repelling, and extremely comfortable.

As well as that, I have shared some of the most important factors that I considered when shortlisting the products and my views regarding some of the most common questions too.

So, let’s get into it!

How to Choose the Best Slippers for Sweaty Feet

Before moving on to the best slippers, I think that it’ll be extremely beneficial for you to know the precise features I looked for when shortlisting them. By keeping these in mind, I can guarantee you that you will be able to find slippers that not only prevent fungal infections but also feature odor-expulsion, temperature-regulation, and moisture-wicking abilities.

Overall Design

To begin off, the design is the most important factor. For one, you will have to make sure that the slippers are well-fitted, as is mentioned later on. Other than that, the slippers should also feature odor control properties as this is one of the major sweat-related problems and can lead to various other conditions, emotional stress, and reduced confidence.

Winter slippers should also include temperature-regulation properties to provide a comfy experience. Additionally, you should make sure that the slippers have moisture-wicking technology to help cope with the sweating better.
For the brand, the more famed brands will want to retain their audiences through amazing products, and, therefore, will probably satisfy you enough. However, they can sometimes be too expensive and, if you spend enough time, you might be able to find a cheaper pair of slippers that offers just as many features.

The Weight and Fitting

You’ll also need to look at the weight and fitting of the slippers because, without them, you might just not enjoy wearing the slippers, causing frustration and stress. So, for the weight, while usually, it’s better to get lighter ones as they put on less pressure and ease the moving but you might prefer heavier ones. Normally, you’ll want thicker, and hence heavier materials for winters, and thinner slippers would be fine for the excruciatingly hot summers.
For the fitting, you’ll have to begin by making sure that the slippers include adequate length from the front to the back. Once that’s out of the way, check the width and also ensure that your feet aren’t constricted or the slippers aren’t stretched out much when wearing. Your feet, however, should also not slip back due to a slightly loose fitting and I would also suggest that you check whether there is sufficient distance between the sole and the upper too.

Durability and Protection

While these won’t directly affect the level of sweat produced, the durability and protection will help prevent other foot conditions. For durability, other than making sure that durable materials are used, you will also need to make sure that these are flexible to prevent cracks upon bending.

In addition to that, you should check the overall shape and also remember to check whether the threads would hold long. The cushioning should also be considered here and so should any additional liners.

For protection, on the other hand, you wouldn’t expect much from a simple pair of slippers. However, you should check for properties like shock absorbance as they can prevent damage from impact. Similarly, waterproofing, insulation, and oil resistance can help better protect your feet while traction, grip, and abrasion resistance will help prevent slips and falls, considerably reducing the risks of injury.

Traction and Grip

Traction, as mentioned before, can greatly help reduce the chances of slip and falls, helping prevent injuries. A highly tractive outsole, additionally, boasts versatility and this also helps reduce the amount of friction produced while moving, helping avoid a range of foot problems.

Grip, on the other hand, will allow you to easily walk in the slippers without slipping out, something quite important considering the amount of time you’ll be walking in them. This will, additionally, help limit movement and prevent such problems while also helping support the foot muscles better. However, don’t mistake grip with a constrictive upper as that can instead cause fatigue and muscle pain, causing problems like extensor tendonitis and metatarsalgia.

Some Other Factors

If you are looking for the absolute best slippers, you will need to look at some other factors as well. For instance, along with the support, the shoes will need to feature an amazing overall look, in which the colors play a huge role. You should make sure that the color combination goes well and you might also give checkered designs a try.

In addition to that, the slippers should include additional lining to help with moisture-wicking as well as temperature regulation. You should also consider the pricing and make sure that you can wear them outside if required. For winters, you will need to make sure that the slippers are warm and comfy while for summers they’ll have to feature a slightly loose style.

As well as that, I would recommend carefully checking the cushioning and shock-absorbent properties as they can greatly help fight sweat-related problems. Lastly, you should make sure that the slippers are well-balanced, allowing stability, and support the whole underfoot, including the toes, arches, ball of the foot, and heel.

Frequently Asked Questions

When searching through the online market, I also came across the following important questions and believed that answering them would greatly benefit you, and so, I did!

1.  What causes sweaty feet?

Sweating is essential to the body’s cooling system and, whenever the body temperature rises, the sweat glands react to release excess heat in the form of sweat. The feet especially follow this rule and produce more sweat than any other part of the body. In fact, there are 250,000 sweat glands in just the feet, producing around half a pint of sweat daily. Therefore, if you aren’t suffering from a related condition, wearing the wrong shoes can cause lots of problems.

If you do sweat more than usual, however, it can be because of your genes, diet, stress, socks, anxiety, or shoes. You might also be suffering from Hyperhidrosis, which is abnormally excessive sweating not necessarily related to exercise or heat. Hyperhidrosis of the feet is called Plantar Hyperhidrosis and is particularly common among patients with cancer, diabetes, and heart failure but can be a side effect of your medications too.

2.  How should I clean my slippers?

Varying a bit by the environmental conditions and the amount of time you wear the slippers, you’ll need to clean them every few days. If you don’t do it correctly, however, the slippers might stiffen up or break apart. Therefore, I would suggest that you follow the methods below to wash your slippers.

Cotton or Synthetic Fabric Slippers

  • ● Begin by wiping the outsole with a soft damp cloth to remove all mud and dirt.
    ● Now, if there are any stains, use a heavy-duty detergent to break them apart using a soft-bristled brush. Let this stay on for 15 minutes before washing.
    ● After this, either wash them in a washing machine with warm water and regular detergent or hand-wash them. For hand-washing, soak them in warm water with a teaspoon of detergent for half an hour before squeezing the solution out and rinsing them in freshwater.
    ● Lastly, stuff paper towels in them and air-dry the slippers in a well-ventilated place.

Leather Slippers

  • ● Begin by wiping down the outsole with a damp cloth to remove any loose soil.
    ● Next, using a soft cloth slightly dampened with warm water and Castile soap solution, wipe down the leather parts.
    ● Now, wait for around five minutes before buffing them with a clean cloth.
    ● After this, apply a leather conditioner and let it air-dry for several hours to prevent stretching.

Suede Slippers

  • ● Most suede slippers include a liner and you should begin by cleaning this with a heavy layer of baking soda and brush it before letting it sit for a few hours.
    ● Now, vacuum out the baking soda and clean the interior with a cloth dipped into a teaspoon of detergent mixed into two cups of warm water.
    ● Finnish by rinsing off the residue with clean water and air-drying the slippers.

3.  How to prevent sweaty feet issues in slippers?

If you wear some kind of closed-toe slipper, you will need to wash them regularly and keep them dry because sweat and odor can build up as you sweat every day. I would, therefore, recommend getting at least two pairs and wearing them on alternating days.

You may also consider using baby powder to prevent sweat buildup or use an antifungal foot powder that helps absorb moisture and odor-causing bacteria. When taking off the slippers too, remember to put some baking soda within, helping absorb any moisture left and neutralizing the smell.

As well as that, you can try a deodorant spray or simply get more breathable slippers. Effective insoles can also help fight stink caused by sweaty feet and so can dryer sheets and tea bags. You can also try steam-cleaning the shoes, or rubbing alcohol when washing them. Lastly, denture tablets can help absorb all the sweat or you can spray essential oil into them to prevent odor and fungus accumulation.

4.  Can sweaty feet cause itching?

Unlike what you might believe, itching isn’t just a dry skin problem and moisture can also cause your skin to itch, and badly. The itching is mostly caused by bacteria present in the moisture or sweat and, if you have such a problem, you should immediately wash the feet and dry them.

In case it still doesn’t stop, it can be because the added moisture is causing the skin to dry out, which is why I would recommend using fresh water. However, even if it stops after washing, don’t be too quick to reach a conclusion because the itching can also be due to a range of factors, like allergic reaction, scabies, or athlete’s foot. And, so, if you are suffering from excessive itching, I would recommend immediately consulting a doctor.

My Final Thoughts

Best Slippers for Sweaty Feet

Everything that you might need was included in the article and I hope that it’ll help you in your search for the best slippers for sweaty feet.

Out of the two mentioned, I liked RockDove Men’s Two-Tone Lightweight Slip-On with memory foam most. Even though it has a slightly narrow toe-box, the premium quality cotton and spandex upper is very breathable and the waffle-knit structure is also extremely flexible. The cushioning provides balance and stability while also reducing tension. Lastly, the non-skid, water-resistant, and oil-resistant outsole provides traction and grip.

For women, on the other hand, I would recommend the Acorn Women’s Spa Thong with premium memory foam. Although the outsole isn’t as durable, if used lightly, they can help through features like waterproofing and a non-skid outsole. It also features amazing traction and the thong design looks great too. Additionally, the memory foam is lightweight and the multilayer insole, as well as the cushioned footbed, work together to provide comfort and support.
